Toaster? How Appropriate!

Since I am now toast.

I did get a bit of a head start on the rest of the crowd, being laid off the week before the Great Wet Carp Across the Face of 2008. And that did lead to a few leads, one of which may pan out. We’ll see if they ever get back to me (more on bad manners later).

Now that business are reducing size, there are fewer leads. A “product manager” for websites (which is a fancy name for project manager at most places) position comes up once or twice a week now. I figure there are about 500-1000 people competing for those positions, so it’s not just a matter of who’s the best qualified but also which resume gets seen.

Now is the time to reinvent and reinvest our time in ourselves. In bad times, smart companies build value. This is the time to look at other fields of study, consider different careers and build new skills. In theory this should be an even busier time and a more productive time than when we were punching the clock. Also in theory, the nikkyo arm pin shouldn’t hurt…

Spore!

Here’s the Spore widget, which shows the creatures Toshi and I have been making in Spore.

He could go all Bourne on us if she’s elected.

On Getting Flip Ultra to Flip on Intel-based Mac:

Quicktime under Mac OS X Leopard can’t play movie or video files saved in .avi format encoded with DivX format without a little help. Also if you get no sound from avi files on your Mac, the following avi audio codec will solve that problem for you.
